Flat Roof Repair Tips
If your home has a flat roof, then it is
necessary to ensure that you protect your home by
laying a layer of watertight seal over the roof to
ensure there is no water leakage. Leakage is lesser
in sloped roofs as water runs down the slopes and
does not stagnate. Whatever the type of roof, at
some point of time, it becomes necessary for roof
repair.
+ If the repair is not major and you are planning on
carrying out the job on your own, the first step is
to prepare the items you require. Collect necessary
tools such as utility knife, putty knife, roofing
nails, mallet, roofing cement and brooms.
+ Before starting the roof repair job, it is
necessary to locate the problem. If there are
fractures or peeled regions on the roof, then you
must follow a few important steps.
+ As roofing cement does not stick on dust, remove
the dirt and dust from the roof surface.
+ The next step is to cut a shape on the area where
the peel or fracture was discovered. You can enhance
the replacement shingles with patterns of accurate
size and shape.
+ Using the putty knife put roofing cement under the
edges of the shingles and nail it down after
attaching on the hole before cementing it.
For roof repair using multiple shingles, it is not
necessary to cement all the shingles as you can just
use nails to hammer them down. Now you are
sufficiently protected from water leaks on your flat
roof.
